WORDS HAVE THE POWER TO SHAPE REALITY, ANY POSITIVELY-CHARGED PERSON WHO VISITS THE DILAPIDATED COMMUNITIES IN CITIES ACROSS AMERICA WILL IMMEDIATELY NOTICE THE NEGATIVE SELF- TALK THAT PERSISTS IN THESE COMMUNITIES. NEGATIVE STATEMENTS EN MASSE ARE SPEWED BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS DAILY FROM THOSE LIVING WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AND SURROUNDING AREAS.

BROWNSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA, HOMETOWN OF WILLIAM JAMES, WAS ONE OF THE COMMUNITIES WHERE NEGATIVE SELF-TALK WAS PREVELANT. THROUGHOUT HIS NFL CAREER, JAMES VISITED HIS HOMETOWN PERODICALLY AND WAS PROFOUNDLY IMPACTED BY THE NEGATIVE CONVERSATIONS HE HEARD ABOUT BROWNSVILLE. EVERYONE JAMES ENCOUNTERED DISCUSSED LEAVING BROWNSVILLE AND PRAYED FOR THE DAY WHEN THEY COULD ESCAPE TO A BETTER LIFE. THE COMMUNITY HATED BROWNSVILLE AND IT WAS UNDERSTOOD THAT IT WAS A SHITHOLE; YOU GET THE POINT!

IT WAS THAT NEGATIVE SELF-TALK THAT MOTIVATED JAMES TO CHOOSE A SLOGAN FOR THE TEAM HUMANITY BRAND THAT WOULD CHANGE THE TONE OF THE CONVERSATIONS HAPPENING THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY. A MOTTO THAT COULD CHAMPION UNITY. A MANTRA TO HELP REBUILD THE COMMUNITY. THE WORDS JAMES CHOSE ARE, “ALLONE RAISE IT UP.”

 

GET STARTED

WHEN TEAMHUMANITY ARRIVED IN BROWNSVILLE, JAMES AND HIS COMPANYS POSITIVE WORDS AND ACTIONS WERE MET WITH RESISTANCE. A MAJORITY OF THE COMMUNITY WAS CYNICAL TO JAMES AND THE MESSAGE HE BROUGHT WITH HIM. JAMESTEAMHUMANITY DID NOT RECEIVE THE WARM WELCOME HE BELIEVED IT WOULD WHEN HE ARRIVED; CHANGING MINDS AND HEARTS IS A DAUNTING TASK. HOWEVER, JAMES PERSISTED AND DID NOT ALLOW THE RESISTANCE TO HINDER HIS EFFORTS TO EFFECT CHANGE. DRIVEN BY HIS COMMITMENT TO THE CHILDREN, JAMES AND TEAMHUMANITY PERSISTED AND THE YOUTH OF THE COMMUNITY BECAME A TEAM AND BEGAN TO CHAMPION AND SPREAD JAMESPOSITIVE MESSAGE. THE YOUTH PROMOTED THE BRAND BY WEARING TEAMHUMANITY GEAR TO SCHOOL AND IN THE STREETS. THE CHILDREN REALLY ARE THE FUTURE AND BY THEIR PARTICIPATION IN EVENTS TO RAISE FUNDS AND UNITE THE COMMUNITY, TEAMHUMANITY SMASHED THE GOALS THEY SET IN PRIVATE IN A VERY PUBLIC WAY.

TEAMHUMANITY PERSISTED BY DEMONSTRATING THE ABILITY TO ACCOMPLISH THE IMPOSSIBLE GOALS IT SET. SLOWLY OVER TIME, THE CONVERSATION ABOUT THE RESTORATION OF BROWNSVILLE WENT FROM NEVER EVERTO MAYBETO PROBABLY TO STRICTLY POSITIVE VIBES.

 

KEEP GOING

POSITIVITY IS CONTAGIOUS AND THE POSITIVE CONVERSATIONS BEGAN TO MULTIPLY IN THE COMMUNITY. THESE CONVERSATIONS TURNED INTO SMALL ACTIONS FROM POSITIVELY CHARGED PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE BROWNSVILLE COMMUNITY AND SURROUNDING AREAS. CONVERSATION BY CONVERSATION, SMALL ACTION BY SMALL ACTION, THE COMMUNITY BEGAN TO BELIEVE IN ITSELF AND THE MOMENTUM SHIFTED.

AFTER A DECADE, TEAMHUMANITY HAS CHANGED THE CONVERSATION FROM SOLELY NEGATIVE TO A STABLE POSITIVE VIBE. BROWNSVILLE IS NOW OPERATING IN AN INSPIRED FIELD. THIS TRANSITION HAS ALSO BEEN REFLECTED IN THE PHYSICAL APPEARANCE OF THE TOWN. THE ONCE COINED “GHOST TOWN” OF BROWNSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA THAT JAMES FOUND IN 2012 HAS NOW BECOME A BURGEONING TOWN THAT RECENTLY CELEBRATED THE OPENING OF TWELVE NEW BUSINESSES!

THE TEAMHUMANITY CLOTHING COMPANY IS HUMBLED TO BE A PART OF HELPING TO IGNITE POSITIVE CHANGE IN BROWNSVILLE, THE COMMUNITY, AND YOUNG LIVES. WE ARE VERY GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF THE YOUTH THAT HAVE BEEN A PART OF THE WORK AND THE FOR ALL OF THE PARENTS AND OUR SUPPORTERS. AS A CLOTHING COMPANY, OUR GOAL IS TO PRODUCE QUALITY PRODUCTS THAT RESUT IN COMMUNITY PROGRESS. THIS IS OUR LIFELONG LEGACY.
